Bugged Out & Cooped Up: Tales of Homesteading Hiccups
Well… isn’t that a humorous title?
…And perfect for today’s vibes!
*eye roll… fine. But I’m already feeling bugged. smh
Thanks, Bianca.
{We are still calling this inner-voice, Bianca, correct?}
*eh, sure.
Whew. Good. I’m too lazy to come up with another one.
*And, far too busy these days.
Speaking of busy…
Don’t you just hate that we ALL….
say that?
AND. SO. OFTEN.
I’m not saying anyone needs to explain themselves – oh no! – Not by any means!
But tell me if you can relate to this…
I can definitely relate to this! I have so many thigns going on, all at the same time, that I just needed a little miracle to help get me sorted.
So, check out what I stumbled upon…

Micro-Chicken Coop Build With Me
Plus, some Beginner Homesteading Ideas!
I have no idea what Iโm thinking with this chicken coop thing.
*wooo, that was quite a transition.
I Know, keep up, girl bc we’re covering a lot of ground today!
*i see that.
But, Iโm certainly going to give it a good try! (psst… we’re back on the micro-chicken coop build.) I find that trying things is the best way to find out if it will work out or not.
I mean, why else do I find myself arranging, and re-arranging. Only to re-arrange what I’ve already arranged because I felt it needed some arranging… err, or re-arranging.
*slaps forehead
I have many friends that have farms. REAL farms. So, I often entertain them with my questions on small items I take on in my little backyard.
I think they fine me amusing.
Whether it’s a weird office furniture item like my chicken nite-nite pen for the girls, or the giggling that occurs when I must move around pavers laid from the seasons prior to now fit the chicks.
But, they love that I keep going with whatever cockamamie idea that is flourishing with today’s tide.

This coop beginning, just happens to be a pre-fab chicken coop but, that’s how I plan to take on this project. Short and sweet, so I can learn how to cluckity-cluck!
Real quickity-quick!
OBJECTIVE: throw this bad boy together quickly so I can learn about what I am really trying to get done… the chickies!
Ever found yourself dreaming about fresh eggs on the daily and a quaint little chicken coop enhancing your backyard’s charm? Well, that’s exactly how I found myself knee-deep in lumber, wire, and more chickens than I could count!

Building a micro-chicken coop seemed so simple. A few boards here, some nails there, and voilaโeggs for breakfast! But let me tell you, navigating this DIY project felt more like starring in my own episode of “Chicken Coop Wipeout.”

Step one: Design the coop. I mean, how hard could it be? I drew plans, erased them, and drew again. I turned into an architect overnight, sort of.
I mean, why else do I find myself arranging, and re-arranging. Only to re-arrange what I’ve already arranged because I felt it needed some arrangingโฆ err, or re-arranging.
*slaps forehead
Once the plan was, uh, โperfect,โ I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. Armed with a toolbox and determination, I channeled my inner Bob the Builder.
But instead of chanting “Can we fix it? Yes, we can!” I was more like “Can we wing it? Hope so!”
During the nail-hammering phase, I discovered chickens are the real critics. I could see them side-eyeing my carpentry skills, probably whispering plans for their prison break.
โDid she really put the nesting boxes there?!โ
Fast forward to completion, Iโd created a coop Hemingway himself could’ve penned a novel about. Okay, maybe not, but close enough!
Now, let’s dip our toes into beginner homesteading.
Picture me in a straw hat that kept falling offโa true farming fashionista.

First tip: Start small, like herb garden small. I planted a mix of basil, thyme, and parsley, only to realize I had no idea what to do with them all. Ever tried parsley pancakes? Donโt.
Next on my list was composting. Talk about a game-changer! But who knew turning kitchen scraps into garden gold could feel like organizing a science fair project? Every banana peel had a critically strategic place. My brain turned into a scene from
CSI: Compost Pile.

Gardening is another adventure. Did I plant too many tomatoes? Absolutely. Was my backyard now a tomato jungle?
You bet!
I could open a tomato emporium at this rate. Seriously, “Rita’s Tomatoes” has a nice ring to it, doesnโt it?
All in all, homesteading has added laughter to my life, a new appreciation for determination, and many eye-roll moments when the chickens think theyโre Houdini.
Got any funny homesteading tales, friends?
Letโs share some laughs!Comment below!
The backyard is becoming a beautiful oasis, and even though its taken so long to get here, the back-breaking work has all been worth it!
Soon, Iโll be able to focus on my gardening and my relaxation attempts when I head outdoors!

Creating a backyard oasis: the dream.
Napping peacefully in your hammock, grilling the perfect steak, and soaking up the sunshine in your own slice of paradise.
But hold on, what do we have here?
BUGS!
Swarms of them, partying like it’s the insect version of Coachella right in your backyard.

Welcome to my backyard, where the grass is green, the flowers are blooming, and the bugs have declared it their own personal kingdom.
I knew I had hit peak bug invasion when I saw a mosquito holding a map and giving tours to its friends.
โAnd on your left, folks, you’ll see the lovely rose bush buffet!โ
I swear, I even caught a couple of them playing volleyball using my citronella candle as the net. Talk about uninvited guests throwing a rager without even bringing snacks!
*rude.
I know, right!
Anyway, one evening, I decided to enjoy a quiet moment in my oasis, armed with my trusty bug spray.
*Deet free? Clean of poisonous toxins, I hope.
Of course, Bianca. *eyeroll
No sooner had I settled into my hammock when a fleet of flies decided it was their turn to use the hammock for some high-flying stunts. My screen door might as well have been a VIP entrance for a never-ending insect party!
Chasing these opportunistic invaders became an Olympic eventโlong jump, high jump, swat-the-invisible-bug marathon. At one point, I was pretty sure I heard a bug yell, โGet him, boys!โ as I wielded my fly swatter like a samurai sword. Bruce Lee would’ve been proud.

Yet, amidst these winged warriors, a sense of humor is crucial. Instead of being bugged out, I decided to have some fun with it. A local spider and I put together an anti-bug task force.
Let’s just say, Operation Websligner is still pending results, mostly because our CEO (said spider) keeps eating our employees.
But seriously, while battling bugs in my backyard oasis wasnโt part of the plan, it certainly made for some unforgettable memories. If you can’t beat them, write about them!
So after this read… I bet you’re thinking, there’s gotta be a cohesive wrap-up that ties your backyard oasis and bug problem, building a micro-chicken coop, and using the HB90 organizing system for creatives together:
And to that… I say, YES!
After battling the bug invasion and finally reclaiming my backyard, I couldn’t wait to take the next step in my homesteading journey: building a micro-chicken coop.
Despite the turbulence caused by our tiny, winged nemeses, my oasis was starting to resemble the sanctuary I envisioned.
But as every aspiring homesteader knows, creating a self-sustaining haven takes more than just a bug-free yard.
Building the micro-chicken coop was both an adventure and an exercise in patience. Armed with a hammer and a touch of overconfidence, I set out to construct a palace fit for my feathered friends.
Of course, the process was far from smooth. Measurements went awry, and at one point, the coop looked more like abstract art than a functional home for chickens.
But with perseverance (and a few extra trips to the hardware store), the coop gradually took shape.
The joy of watching the chickens settle into their new home made every mishap worth it. Plus, the eggs theyโll eventually lay will be the freshest reward for my labor!
As satisfying as homesteading is, it comes with a steep learning curve.
*yeah, no kidding.
To handle the chaos and keep my projects on track, I needed a reliable organizing system. Enter the HB90 Method, a game-changer for creatives like me.
This system redefined how I plan and execute my goals, emphasizing quarterly planning and daily disciplines.
It enabled me to break down my ambitious homesteading dreams into manageable tasks, ensuring that the journey remained enjoyable without becoming overwhelming.
With the HB90 Method, I could plan bug-proofing techniques, schedule coop-building sessions, and even allocate time to relax and soak in the beauty of my backyard sanctuary.
The system’s flexibility allowed me to adjust plans as new challenges arose, like when the coop’s roof decided to cave in (donโt ask).
Sharing my experience with the HB90 Method became a natural part of the journey, providing helpful insights to fellow homesteaders and creatives looking to find balance in their projects.
Reflecting on this adventure, it’s clear that homesteadingโmuch like lifeโis a continuous process of learning, adapting, and celebrating small victories.
From outsmarting the bugs to building a cozy coop and streamlining my goals with the HB90 Method, this has been a transformative experience.
Feel Inspired Yet?
*keep talkin’…
