Simple Summer Reset: Organize Your Home and Kitchen

cozy-homestead-morning-backyard-gardening-chickens-lifestyle-reset-jpg

There comes a point every summer when I look around the house and realize that everything is technically functioning… but absolutely nothing feels organized.

The pantry is giving “mystery snack storage.”

The refrigerator contains three half-used condiments and a level of optimism that is not supported by actual meal ingredients.

The garden is plotting something.

clean-and-cozy-home-vibes-weekend-reset-lifestyle-blog-jpg

And the chickens have once again decided that the rules do not apply to them.

So naturally, it was time for a Summer Reset. โ˜€๏ธ

Not a deep-clean-every-baseboard-until-your-back-hurts kind of reset.

A realistic reset.

The kind where you restock the groceries, get a few meals prepped, tackle a couple projects, spend time outside, and somehow convince yourself that this is definitely the week you’ll stay organized.

(We’ll revisit that claim later. ๐Ÿ˜‚)

The Great Grocery Haul of Summer

Every reset begins with groceries.

Or more specifically…

Standing in the kitchen wondering why there’s somehow nothing to eat despite spending money on food last week.

Please tell me I’m not the only one.

clean-and-cozy-home-vibes-weekend-reset-lifestyle-blog-jpg

The grocery haul wasn’t anything particularly glamorous, but it was exactly what this house needed.

Fresh produce, ingredients for easy meals, pantry staples, refrigerator restocks, and a few items that future Rita would be grateful to find later.

One of my favorite homemaking habits is keeping the pantry and refrigerator reasonably stocked during the summer months.

Notice I said reasonably.

Not apocalypse-level stocked.

Just enough that I can pull together meals without staring into the refrigerator for fifteen minutes hoping dinner magically materializes.

I’ve tested that strategy extensively.

It never works.

Pantry Restock = Future Rita Appreciation Society

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that pantry organization isn’t really about containers.

It’s about reducing future stress.

When the pantry is stocked and organized, dinner becomes easier.

Meal prep becomes easier.

Life becomes easier.

And honestly, during the summer, easier is exactly what I’m after.

The temperatures are climbing.

The days are longer.

The garden needs attention.

The chickens need attention.

The house needs attention.

I do not need to spend forty-five minutes searching for breadcrumbs.

So everything got put away, organized, and reset for the weeks ahead.

Future Rita sends her thanks.

Did I mention that label making is also my love language?

Refrigerator Refresh Time โ„๏ธ

home-reset-weekend-cleaning-organizing-living-space-refresh-jpg

Next up was the refrigerator.

This is always one of those tasks that feels annoying before I start and incredibly satisfying once it’s finished.

home-reset-weekend-cleaning-organizing-living-space-refresh-jpg

There is something magical about opening the refrigerator and seeing actual ingredients instead of random leftovers conducting independent science experiments.

The shelves were refreshed.

Items were rotated.

New groceries found their homes.

And for approximately twelve minutes, the refrigerator looked like something straight out of a lifestyle magazine.

Then my husband opened it.

But those twelve minutes were glorious.

Summer Cravings & Keeping It Simple

One thing I notice every year is that my cooking changes dramatically once summer arrives.

Winter Rita loves soups.

Fall Rita wants pumpkin everything.

Summer Rita?

Summer Rita wants fewer dishes.

Less cleanup.

clean-and-cozy-home-vibes-weekend-reset-lifestyle-blog-jpg

Simple ingredients.

Easy meals.

Maximum enjoyment.

Minimum kitchen chaos.

I don’t know if it’s the heat or the fact that I’d rather be outside, but once June rolls around, I’m all about meals that work with me instead of against me.

That’s why having a stocked pantry and refrigerator matters so much.

When ingredients are already available, putting together a quick meal feels effortless.

And honestly, that’s the kind of energy I’m chasing this season.

Simple.

Relaxed.

Delicious.

Preferably with minimal dishes.

Homemade Pizza Night ๐Ÿ•

summer-weekend-home-reset-clean-with-me-kitchen-declutter-jpg

Speaking of delicious…

Pizza.

From scratch.

Now, could I have ordered pizza?

Absolutely.

Would it have been easier?

Probably.

Would it have been nearly as satisfying?

Not even close.

There is something incredibly cozy about making homemade pizza.

cozy-lifestyle-summer-cleaning-morning-routine-cook-with-me-jpg

The dough.

The toppings.

The smell filling the kitchen.

The excitement of wondering whether you accidentally made enough pizza to feed a family reunion.

It’s one of those meals that feels special without being complicated.

And honestly, pizza night might be one of my favorite homemaking traditions.

It’s casual.

It’s comforting.

And everyone gets excited when they hear the word pizza.

Even the chickens.

Although they are rarely consulted regarding menu planning.

Stuffed Peppers Save the Day ๐Ÿซ‘

cozy-lifestyle-summer-cleaning-morning-routine-cook-with-me-jpg

After pizza, we moved on to stuffed peppers.

Another favorite around here.

I love meals that can be prepared ahead of time, stored easily, and reheated without creating additional kitchen disasters.

Summer cooking doesn’t have to be complicated.

Sometimes the best meals are the ones that quietly do their job.

Feed everyone.

Taste amazing.

Create minimal cleanup.

Allow me to spend more time outside.

That’s basically my summer cooking philosophy.

A Patriotic Tablescape Nobody Asked For ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโ›ณ

cozy-lifestyle-summer-cleaning-morning-routine-cook-with-me-jpg

Now let’s talk about the tablescape.

Because somehow this project took a wonderfully unexpected turn.

The original goal?

Create a festive Fourth of July tablescape.

Simple enough.

Then golf entered the conversation.

The plates had golf-ball edging.

The placemats looked suspiciously like astroturf.

And before I knew it, we had accidentally created a patriotic country club situation.

I cannot fully explain how we arrived here.

But I regret nothing.

That’s one of the things I love most about decorating.

Sometimes the best ideas happen accidentally.

You start with one vision.

You end somewhere completely different.

And somehow it works.

The finished tablescape made me smile every time I walked past it.

Which, honestly, is the whole point.

Finishing the Puzzle ๐Ÿงฉ

At some point during all of this, the puzzle was completed.

And if you’re a puzzle person, you understand the satisfaction.

It’s the homemaker equivalent of crossing the finish line.

One last piece.

One final click.

Victory.

It’s such a small thing, but those tiny wins matter.

Life is full of unfinished projects.

Unfinished laundry.

Those unfinished to-do lists.

Unfinished garden projects.

Sometimes it’s nice to actually finish something.

Even if it’s just a puzzle.

Time to Take This Party Outside ๐ŸŒฟ

With the indoor projects complete, it was finally time to head outside.

And wow.

The backyard had thoughts.

Lots of thoughts.

The garden needed attention.

Plants needed transplanting.

Seeds needed planting.

The Chicken Workout Dojo needed a refresh.

Basically, the entire backyard was ready for its own summer reset.

So outside we went.

The Chicken Workout Dojo Returns ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”

The Chicken Workout Dojo continues to be one of my favorite spaces.

Part workout area. PAETA Pilates Reformer: https://amzn.to/3SedI65

Part chicken headquarters.

Part ongoing experiment.

The cleanup wasn’t particularly glamorous, but it was absolutely necessary.

Sometimes maintaining outdoor spaces is less about dramatic transformations and more about preventing complete chaos.

And honestly?

That’s a perfectly respectable goal.

Garden Updates & Fresh Starts ๐ŸŒฑ

backyard-chicken-care-summer-garden-reset-clean-with-me-homestead-jpg

Several plants found new homes.

Fresh seeds went into the ground.

clean-and-cozy-home-vibes-weekend-reset-lifestyle-blog-jpg

Garden beds received some much-needed attention.

And for a brief moment, everything looked neat, organized, and full of potential.

Gardeners know this feeling.

Every seed feels hopeful.

Every transplant feels exciting.

Each season feels like a new opportunity to try something different.

Of course…

Then there’s Sofia.

Sofia vs. The Pumpkin Patch ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŽƒ

backyard-chicken-care-summer-garden-reset-clean-with-me-homestead-jpg

Let’s discuss Sofia.

Because Sofia has decided that the pumpkin patch belongs to her.

Technically, she lays eggs there.

Which is charming.

Convenient, even.

If that were the end of the story.

But Sofia has additional hobbies.

Those hobbies include:

backyard-chicken-care-summer-garden-reset-clean-with-me-homestead-jpg

Removing plants.

Digging holes.

Relocating mulch.

Destroying evidence.

Creating chaos.

Basically, Sofia believes she is helping.

The garden strongly disagrees.

At this point, we’re entering negotiations.

And by negotiations, I mean future DIY projects designed to keep chickens out of places chickens absolutely should not be.

Future Garden Projects & DIY Plans

Which brings us to the next chapter.

The inevitable DIY solutions. i.e. the ๐Ÿค– Miss Diva Vacuum: https://amzn.to/4x4owUq

I’ve already started planning additional garden panels and barriers that can help protect the garden while still allowing the chickens their freedom.

Will they work?

clean-and-cozy-home-vibes-weekend-reset-lifestyle-blog-jpg

Maybe.

Will Sofia immediately begin looking for loopholes?

Absolutely.

But that’s part of the adventure.

Every year brings new projects.

New lessons.

New challenges.

And occasionally new chicken-related crimes.

Why Summer Resets Matter โ˜€๏ธ

why-summer-resets-matter-reflective-jpg

The older I get, the more I realize that homemaking isn’t about perfection.

It’s about maintenance.

Tiny resets.

Small improvements.

Simple routines.

Little moments that make life easier.

A pantry restock.

A clean refrigerator.

A homemade meal.

A finished puzzle.

A watered garden.

A few seeds in the ground.

None of those things are particularly dramatic.

But together?

They create a home that feels cared for.

And that’s really what this entire summer reset was about.

Not perfection.

Not productivity.

Just taking care of the spaces and people I love.

One project at a time.

Let’s Chat! ๐Ÿ’ฌ

why-summer-resets-matter-reflective-jpg

Now I want to hear from you!

What’s your favorite summer meal?

Do you meal prep during the summer or wing it?

Are you gardening this year?

And most importantly…

Do you have a Sofia in your life?

Maybe not a chicken.

But someone who lovingly undoes all your hard work while somehow remaining completely adorable?

Let me know in the comments below!
