A Slow Spring Reset: Letting Go of Old Homemaking Systems & Creating What Actually Works

Slow Spring Reset: Letting Go of Old Systems & Building New Homemaking Momentum

There’s a particular kind of tired that shows up right before spring.

Not the cozy winter tired. Not the burnt-out holiday tired. It’s the systems-are-failing-me-and-I’m-trying-not-to-take-it-personally tired.

That’s the energy of today’s reset.

This wasn’t a dramatic, rip-everything-out-of-the-house situation. No dramatic montage. No color-coded bins magically appearing. This was a slow reset day.

The kind where you ease into the house, trip over a few problems you’ve been ignoring, laugh at yourself, pivot, and keep moving anyway.

And honestly? Those are the resets that stick.

If you’re in a season where the old way isn’t working anymore and you’re tired of forcing it to, pull up a chair. This one’s for you.

🧺 A Slow Reset Day (Why This Counts More Than a Power Clean)

Spring homemaking isn’t about speed. It’s about momentum.

We’ve been sold the idea that a “reset” requires eight uninterrupted hours, perfect lighting, and an empty calendar. That mindset alone is enough to keep most of us stuck.

Today was about doing what could be done inside real life.

• Waking up slowly
• Starting where my feet already were
• Letting the house talk back to me instead of ignoring it

This is how resets actually snowball.

You don’t overhaul the house. You change how you respond to it.

☕ Starting in the Kitchen Without Overcommitting

The kitchen is always the loudest room in the house. Even when it’s quiet, it’s whispering complaints.

Today’s whisper was becoming a shout:

The sink.

The sink has officially entered its villain era.

With it partially out of commission, the entire system around dishes collapsed. And instead of heroically digging my heels in and washing dishes around the clock like some sort of domestic martyr, I made a decision that felt rebellious and deeply practical.

Paper plates.

Paper cups.

Temporary sanity solutions.

Spring mindset shift number one: stop forcing broken systems just because they’re familiar.

There is no prize for suffering through a setup that isn’t working.

🛏️ Bedroom Reset Energy (Small Wins Matter)

Making the bed isn’t about aesthetics. It’s about posture.

The second the bed was made, the room stood up straighter. And so did I.

No perfection. No deep clean. Just:

• Straightened bedding
• Cleared surfaces
• Opened the room back up

Spring resets thrive on visible wins.

This is where momentum sneaks in quietly and then refuses to leave.

🎨 The Foyer Tidy (AKA Clearing Visual Static)

You know that feeling when your brain feels cluttered but you can’t explain why?

Nine times out of ten, it’s visual noise.

The foyer took less than ten minutes.

Shoes back where they belong. Random items returned to their natural habitats. Nothing fancy.

But the house immediately felt calmer.

Spring mindset shift number two: your nervous system counts clutter before your to-do list does.

🚪 The Sink Saga & The Art of Pivoting

Yes, the sink came up again.

Because unresolved problems love to haunt you from room to room.

Instead of pretending it wasn’t an issue, I adjusted the plan for the day around it.

No marathon dish sessions.

No resentment simmering in the background.

Just a temporary workaround and permission to move forward.

This is where a lot of homemaking frustration comes from. We wait for everything to be fixed before we allow progress.

Spring mindset shift number three: progress doesn’t require perfect conditions.

🐔 Chicken Check-In (Because Fresh Air Changes Everything)

A quick outdoor break does more for your mood than another cup of coffee.

Checking in with the girls, hearing the sounds of the yard, stepping away from the house for a few minutes. It reset my nervous system in a way no cleaning spray ever could.

Homemaking isn’t confined to walls.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for the house is step outside it.

🧹 Cabinet Declutter (Where Momentum Really Kicks In)

Let’s talk about the cabinet situation.

This wasn’t about aesthetics. This was about irritation.

When opening a cabinet makes you sigh every single time, it’s not storage. It’s a problem.

I didn’t reorganize. I removed.

• Dishes we don’t reach for
• Items that migrated there out of convenience
• Things that belonged to a system we don’t use anymore

Spring mindset shift number four: decluttering isn’t about owning less, it’s about reaching for less.

And with paper products temporarily stepping in, this cabinet reset felt lighter instead of punishing.

🤍 Reset Reflections: Letting Go of Old Systems

Here’s the truth that sneaks up on you in spring:

You’ve outgrown some systems that once worked beautifully.

And that doesn’t mean you failed.

It means your life changed.

• Different energy levels
• Different schedules
• Different priorities

Spring resets aren’t about copying someone else’s routines. They’re about editing your own.

The moment you stop asking “Why can’t I keep up?” and start asking “What actually works now?” everything shifts.

🌱 The Spring Homemaking Snowball Effect

This is how it happens:

One small reset makes the next one easier.

You make the bed, so you clear the nightstand.

You clear the nightstand, so the room feels calmer.

The room feels calmer, so you open a cabinet.

The cabinet opens smoothly, so you feel capable.

Capability creates confidence.

Confidence creates momentum.

Momentum changes seasons.

🧺 A Gentle Spring Reset Checklist (No Pressure Edition)

Use this as a guide, not a rulebook.

Start Here

• Make one bed
• Clear one surface
• Open one window

Kitchen Sanity

• Identify one broken system
• Create a temporary workaround
• Remove items that make daily tasks harder

Visual Calm

• Tidy one high-traffic zone
• Put away things that don’t belong there

Momentum Builders

• Step outside for 5 minutes
• Do one cabinet or drawer
• Stop when frustration shows up

Mindset Resets

• Ask: does this still serve how we live now?
• Replace guilt with curiosity
• Choose progress over perfection

Final Thoughts (And Your Turn)

Resetting your home doesn’t always mean doing more.

Sometimes it means releasing the expectation that you should be able to make outdated systems work forever.

If you’re resetting with me today, I’d love to know:

• What space are you tackling?
• What system are you finally changing?

Spring isn’t asking you to become someone new.

It’s inviting you to move forward a little lighter.

And that is more than enough.

PAINTING MY HOUSE!! // DIY OUTDOOR PROJECTS // SPRING VLOG

How long does it take to paint the exterior of a house?

Well, it depends on the stamina, the tools, and the amount of gumption one might have to do so. And, naturally, in this case… we know Rita’s got it.

The gumption, at least. Lol

Time-wise, this project is still NOT finished, but I will show you in the video that was done over the course of several mornings during the summer months last year.

(Two years if you count the front of the house that we started the first year we decided to accomplish this task!)

We will do a “paint the house” update and finish this project completely – with lots of hope – THIS SUMMER!

How do you feel when you take on big projects like these?

Does it feel overwhelming? Are you excited? Let me know in the comments below!

I’m always very elated to get going! But about a third of the way through I get so burnt out…

alternatively, I also get excited all over again to finish when I do eventually come back to it! haha

Which brings me to the

PROCRASTINATION STATION!

I find the more I think, plan, and try to get things in order… the longer I can find reasons to put off the very thing I’m trying and (wanting) to do!

Why is that?

Any ideas?

I will just say, I find it best to just GO! Do not go to jail. Do not dilly dally around the game board. Just… GO!

*were those Monopoly references?

Possibly. I could be confusing a couple of board games there. ha!

Remember, Mouse Trap? Mr. Game Show? Operation?

I loved those games.

*all, very loud games.

Actually… now that you mention it. I guess they are all loud choice of game play.

Hmmm… that’s interesting. Never noticed that before.

*explains a lot

Does it?

So, grab a ladder, paint, rollers/brushes, and the like, and let’s get going!

What did you think? Pretty fun, huh?

As you can see, I just climb the ladder and go. There’s no rhyme or reason. But, for those of you who need a checklist to get started on something big like this… here ya go!

*pretty sure you can right click to download it as well! Or drag ‘n drop to your desktop & print it out!

It’s totally free!

Now, if you have zero interest in sharing your project online, by all means, just ignore that section!

I added that for those of you who tend to live online like I do and sometimes sharing these projects to my friends on social media help get and keep me motivated!

But, it’s definitely not a requirement!
